The entire tour is conducted outside, above ground and guests should dress
appropriately for the weather. Sturdy footwear is recommended as some standing and
walking on rough gravel may be required. The tour itself is approximately one hour
in length and then includes another hour of creek panning if you want to test your own
prospecting skills!
Our mine tour begins at "The
Roadhouse", an 85 year old building located at the confluence of Hunker and
Goldbottom creeks. From The Roadhouse, access to the mining site is provided by
our 4 wheel drive vehicles and is generally a 10 to 15 minute trip on GoldBottom Creek
Road. Information about historical and
contemporary mining is provided by our experienced, well informed escorts. Visitors have
often seen wildlife (bear, moose, hawks, fox) during this drive. At the current mining cut
guides will explain what you are seeing and how we mine the gold. After seeing the mining cut,
we return to The Roadhouse, where we demonstrate how we clean and separate the gold fines from
concentrate and the procedure for selling it on the open market. Now you get to spend an hour
panning from "Authentic" paydirt, and you get to keep what you pan. We have the boots,
pans, and shovels that you will need to try your luck at striking it rich!
We hope you will find that this unique tour
of our placer mine compliments other historic Klondike attractions usually attended by
visitors to the Yukon, such as: The Dawson City Museum; Bear Creek Historic Mining Camp;
Diamond Tooth Gerties and Dredge #4 to name a few.
