Explore what we offer
In 2025 we will be providing 2 tour daily.
Beginning Mid-May until freeze-up, usually first weekend of September (tour times are below). We operate in all weather conditions, very rarely do we close because of weather (i.e. rain), if you’ve made the trip, we’ll still make it worthwhile.
To see our gold mining operation requires a trip into the traditional goldfields of the Klondike, our staging area is at the former town site of Goldbottom, a once thriving, sociable community that boasted a population of close to 5000 people during the hey-days of the 1898 Klondike Gold Rush.
We provide escorted tours of our family’s authentic gold mining operation on Goldbottom or Hunker Creek in the Heart of the Klondike! We give explanations and demonstrations of historic and modern placer gold mining methods and processes, everything from staking a claim to selling the gold. We share personal experiences and stories about life on the creeks. The Millar Family and our Goldbottom Crew has over thirty years gold mining experiences to share.
PLEASE NOTE: The tour is mostly conducted outside, above ground and guests should dress appropriately for the weather. Sturdy footwear is recommended as standing and walking on rough gravel will be required. Bring dry clothes for the kids, and you may wish to bring insect repellent. Kids are welcome!

Over the years we’ve been asked if there is anywhere to set-up a high banker or mini sluice and we’ve heard your pleas. We have 69 placer gold claims along Goldbottom and Hunker creeks. This activity is intended for the more serious “hobby” miner and we have restrictions as to what we consider a “hobby” miner. Remember that it’s not finding the gold, it’s seeking the gold! We promise the setting is awesome, the adventure is real and the gold is a glorious bonus! Cabins are available for rent if you wish to extend your Gold Seeking Adventure.

Who
we are
Len and Rona Millar arrived in Whitehorse, Yukon on September 11, 1954 on their honeymoon, having married on September 4 in Almonte, Ontario, Granddad’s hometown, 50 miles from Shawville, Quebec, Nana’s hometown. After three years of trying to get to Dawson City, they finally arrived, with their 1 year old son, David. Len worked for the Department of Transportation and Rona worked as a Registered Nurse in St. Mary’s hospital. Over the years they had a set of twins, Dirk and Deborah and the “baby”, Mary Dee.
When the dredge company stopped operating in 1966, the Millars moved to British Columbia where we operated our own business for several years, until the calling of the North could no longer be ignored and in 1974, Len returned to Dawson to begin looking at how to start gold mining.
David Millar continued the mining operations with his brother Dirk after Len passed. The Placer mine is still in operation to this day. The Tours started after David had a set of Triplets, Justin, Rachel, and Andrea with his wife Lorraine in 1993.
